Fire Department of New York (FDNY EMS)
Hilda Vannata, 67, FDNY EMS, died in the line of duty due to World Trade Center Illness. Hilda embodied public service and joined FDNY EMS as an EMT where she served for 26 years. She and her husband, an NYPD officer, spent countless hours helping in the post 9-11 efforts. Becoming a mother was her most humbling, wonderous and rewarding experience and often told her son, “You can’t put a price tag on peace of mind. As beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, colleague, and friend she was known by all as a warm and caring person who always went out of her way to help anyone in need.
