Joseph “Joe” Back, 59, Whitesburg Fire Department, died in the line of duty due to a medical event. Dedicated to helping others, Joe started his career in the fire service in 1982 as a volunteer firefighter and EMT, and later as a paid firefighter in 1993 with the Whitesburg Fire Department. Joe loved serving as assistant fire chief in a small town where he knew most everyone. A humble servant to others, Joe was always kind and caring with every patient he encountered in EMS. When not working, he enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, and maintaining a small farm. He was a beloved husband and father and leaves a legacy of service that will impact many people for years to come.
